***Automated Clearing House (ACH) is an electronic network for financial transactions in the United States. ACH direct debit transfers include consumer payments on insurance premiums, mortgage loans, and all sorts of other businesses.

What is an ACH Payment?

Automated Clearinghouse Payments, otherwise known as ACH payments, is the term used to describe a type of payment that is collected electronically – either as a single entry or repetitive payment from a client or customer.

Although ACH processing is a payment solution still growing in popularity, an increasing number of merchants are adding this payment option to their arsenal. Typical use of ACH payments include paying online bills, and loan, deposit, or even mortgage installments.

If this is the first-time hearing of this payment method, you may be scratching your head trying to figure out how it is efficient. It’s essential to keep an open mind when it comes to ACH payments, especially considering it is more cost-efficient than similar alternatives (i.e. credit cards or conventional checks). ACH payment solutions are also prevalent on the internet, particularly for person-to-person (P2P) expenses, business-to-business (B2B) payments, or even business-to-customer (B2C) deposits.

Our innovative ACH solutions lead the industry and we are pleased to provide our customers with the ability to enjoy this unrivaled processing solution. Payment Savvy is an expert in the field, particularly with those industries considered higher-risk. We review each application individually and offer our clients a custom-tailored solution to fit their needs and goals.

When discussing deposits, loans, payroll and other transactions involving a monetary exchange, ACH payments are an ideal, gainful solution to a growing concern. Our customers have come to depend on us to provide optimal solutions with product offerings we proudly stand behind.

More than ever, corporate and professional entities are turning to ACH transactions as a valid and efficient way to conduct business.  With over 10 billion ACH payments being made worldwide – it’s clear this payment method is here to stay.

Why Use ACH Payments?

There are multiple advantages to accepting ACH as a valid payment option. Regardless of the size of the organization or length of time the business has been in existence, the solution Payment Savvy provides is the same – to offer an effective electronic payment processing solution which reduces manual errors. Most businesses agree that technological advancements are constantly evolving in the merchant processing realm and manual dealings with currency are slowly becoming obsolete.

The pressure to increase productivity and reduce risks brought on by human-operated systems is at an all-time high. This pressure also includes dipping costs wherever possible, all while locating adequate tools to contend in an unstable market and remain unrivaled in your industry.

A few advantages of ACH payments include:

  • Fully-automated process, free from human error
  • Automated scheduling and arrival of payments
  • Convenient online access
  • Automated client notifications
  • Debit authorization and protection
  • Comprehensive risk reduction tools
  • Extensive reporting available
  • Comprehensive return item processing
  • Prefunding
  • Dual authorization

By using an ACH solution offered by Payment Savvy, corporations can choose a business model proven to be cost-effective, profitable, competent and perfectly suited for a variety of industries.

Another valid point to consider, is the significant advantage over your competitors. As this technology has not yet been adopted across the board within organizations, accepting ACH processing, gives one an edge over the competition. By offering more payment options to consumers than the conventional methods every business has on hand, companies stand to gain a higher marker share of the available pool of customers.  Additionally, the overall environmental impact of providing a paperless payment method attracts eco-conscious customers.

Ultimately, ACH payments provides a solution to common issues:

  • Eliminates high costs associated with manual-driven processes
  • Improve customer satisfaction and chances of gaining return customers
  • Maximize efficiencies and productivity
  • Offers 24/7 support from industry experts
  • Aids the expansion of business offerings
  • Improves regulatory compliance

When discussing high-risk merchants, we are referring to those industries which are notorious for having a higher risk of credit card chargebacks, elevated risk investments, or potential fraud.

Although these businesses are often the most profitable, the nature of the work they engage in can make ACH payment offerings limited to them.

Payment Savvy can offer ACH processing to the following industries:

  • Health and Wellness Products
  • Collections Agencies
  • Online Gaming
  • Software Downloads
  • Credit Repair
  • Travel
  • Call Centers

Alternatives to ACH Payments

The Automated Clearing House, or ACH, uses an electronic network that allows automatic payments to be made through them. However, it is still important to know all other alternatives for your payment solutions outside of credit and debit cards and cash.

Alternative payment methods include:

LevelUp

The traditional barcode is used for security and sales purposes in stores across the world. The QR code is similar to this except that it holds payment data. This QR code based payment is offered by LevelUp.

With a three-part security system of token usage, it offers a much lower processing fee than other payment methods. It uses a compatible Point of Sale System (POS) and a proprietary scanner provided by LevelUp and offers white-label solutions in the form of custom apps for businesses, NFC and iBeacon. It is available on iOS and Android devices, making it useful at any time, with loyalty programs also offered.

CurrentC

CurrentC is like LevelUp as it uses the QR code based payment method, but it differs in the fact that payment can be made using bank accounts, store cards or gift cards. It also allows for coupon redemption and loyalty cards.

CurrentC is easily available for downloading, so if you have a smartphone, you have access to it. Although it does not have the easiest user experience since you always must scan QR codes generated by your phone or from the register, it is very secure.

You must enter a pin every time you open the CurrentC application. If you are at a gas station or restaurant that accepts CurrentC, your payments can be accepted as long as they have a POS and a scanner.

Pay with Amazon

Also known as “Login,” Pay with Amazon allows users to pay on any website with their Amazon login credentials using any payment method accepted on Amazon accounts. It has similar rates to PayPal, and has greater coverage with over 244 million active users on Amazon.

It operates on a pay-as-you-go basis where monthly charges and contracts do not exist. To use Pay with Amazon, all you require is a compatible shopping cart from Shopify, Magento and many others.

It has three advantages of growth guarantee. They ensure your processing fee is refunded after 30 days of no sales, offer a free hosted payment page, and a first-rate fraud protection plan.

Dwolla

Dwolla is free to use for ACH fees, recurring payments and any large distributive payments like a company payroll. It is a third-party ACH service that also allows you to send money for personal reasons. It offers additional services as the service plan cost increases across the months, including next day transfer options, hosted payment page and more.

You determine the service features you want based on the service plan you sign up for. Dwolla uses tokenization and encryption for security with a two-point authentication when you move money.

Bitcoin

More popular these days is this cryptocurrency alternative, particularly among the younger generation. It is a web form of payment that is self-regulated and is not under government regulation.

Bitcoin has the lowest fees and can be converted to dollars if needed; the transactions are public, but personal details are private – you also have the choice to encrypt and secure your wallet. Bitcoin can be accepted using processors, which are becoming more readily available.

PayPal

PayPal is the most widely recognized payment service with over 170 million users globally. The service allows the linkage of debit, credit cards and bank accounts for payments. It features a payment tool that allows you to send money from person to person.

Available on smartphones and on a website’s online shopping cart, users pay 2.9% plus an additional fee per transaction. You can pay as you go with no contract which offers convenience for many online transactions.

Samsung Pay

Samsung Pay is relatively new. The application works for consumers on T-Mobile, U.S. Cellular, AT&T Sprint and Verizon using an American Express Card, Visa or MasterCard, but unfortunately does not support loyalty cards or coupons.

Security is ensured via the use of fingerprints and a magnetic secure transmission where your phone is used as a traditional card. It works on Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge, Galaxy S6 Edge+, Galaxy Note 5 and later models.

Apple Pay

Another contact-less mobile payment option which the Samsung Pay is patterned after, Apple Pay uses the NFC (Near Field Communication) technology and unlike Samsung Pay, it supports loyalty cards, coupons and reward programs.

It requires a merchant account, POS and terminal that is NFC enabled. Apple Pay is compatible on the iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus and later models, iPad Pro, iPad Air 2, iPad mini 4, iPad mini 3 and Apple Watch.

The only disadvantage is that this alternative, as well as Samsung Pay, only works with their particular and specific phones model.

Android Pay or Google Wallet

Google Wallet was the name it was called and used in 2011, but has been succeeded by the Android Pay in 2015. The good news is that it can work with any Android smartphone, unlike Samsung Pay and Apple Pay which is phone specific.

It features P2P payments, supports credit and debit cards as well as loyalty and reward programs. Android Pay, like the other phone-based payments, requires POS and NFC-enabled terminals to process cards. Moreover, Android Pay uses tokenization and phone security measures for security.

How to start accepting ACH Payments

It’s hard to deny the way businesses once accepted payments was uncomplicated and effortless. As the digital era advances into full bloom, sending and receiving payments has become more complicated. Nonetheless there is a light at the end of the tunnel –  ACH payments have revolutionized the way we see payments, the method is more efficient, faster and even available to high-risk merchants.

This inference comes easy once able to compare ACH payments with more antiquated methods (i.e. conventional paper checks). These older systems require a huge investment in both time and money, as well as involve multiple middle men.

Having the option to electronically and automatically accept a payment does not mean you lose any control over the process of money being deposited into your bank account. The process eliminates time-consuming activities and reduces the risk of human-error that may hold-up funds reaching your account in a timely manner. Payment Savvy offers state-of-the-art and protected ACH payment methods. We look forward to being your payment partner.
